Following the first two meetings of the Elections Committee, several proposed changes to the Elections Act (2017) were brought to the Senate floor on March 13th by Elections Committee Co-Chairs, Donna Goodenow and Kelsey Mongeau.
The election schedule was changed to accommodate four full weeks of campaigning prior to ballots opening as specified in the Elections Act (2017). The new schedule is available on the elections page.
Other amendments include:
•§2-1.1 b: Add "certificate, and professional" to clarify the definition of at-large graduate student
•§2-1.1 o: Add "certificate," to clarify the definition of the graduate student body
•§2-2.2 b: Replace "Spring Break" with "the close of the candidates form" to create more functional working guidelines for the elections timeline
•§2-5.6 Replace "principals" with "principles" to fix a spelling error
•§2-6.4 Replace "three (3)" with "five (5)" to standardize the timeline for election violation requirements and the official termination of the election
•§3-1.2 Add "or the GPSG Parliamentarian’s appointee" to allow for contingencies
•§4-2.2 Add "unless that person is a currently enrolled graduate student" to designate an exception for university employees who are also students Add "following the timeline established in Section 2-6.4 of this Act" to define the period for appeal.
•§5-1.1 Replace "conclusion of the Election Day Meeting" with "termination of election business as defined by Sections 2-6.4 and 5-1.2 of this Act" to ensure that the committee is formally charged to disband in concert with the conclusion of its duties
•§5-2.1 Add "following the timeline established in Section 2-6.4 of this Act" to define the period for appeal.
